WIVF

What is IVF?

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is one of the best-known fertility treatments worldwide. It involves stimulating the ovaries to produce eggs, fertilizing them with sperm in a laboratory, and transferring the resulting embryos into the uterus. IVF has helped millions of couples conceive, especially in cases where other treatments were unsuccessful.

At Lifespan Birth, we do not recommend IVF or IUI. Instead, we recommend ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection), which is a more advanced and precise technique. ICSI is often recommended in the same situations where IVF would normally be considered, but with higher success rates and improved outcomes, especially in cases of male factor infertility.

When is IVF Recommended?

IVF or ICSI may be recommended when:

Fallopian tubes are blocked or damaged

Male partners have low sperm count or motility

Other fertility treatments, such as IUI, were unsuccessful

Genetic testing is needed to reduce the risk of inherited conditions

How Long Does IVF Take?

Most IVF cycles take 3 weeks from ovarian stimulation to embryo transfer, patients following an ICSI pathway can expect a very similar timeline. For patients traveling from abroad, we often coordinate pre-cycle testing remotely, followed by a 2 to 3 week stay in Bangkok for treatment.

FAQs About IVF

What does IVF involve?

IVF stimulates the ovaries, retrieves eggs, fertilizes them in a lab, and transfers embryos into the uterus. At Lifespan Birth, we use ICSI, where a single sperm is directly injected into each egg for improved success.

How long does an IVF cycle take?

A cycle usually takes 4 to 6 weeks, though preparation can begin earlier. International patients often plan a 2 to 3 week stay in Bangkok.

Is IVF painful?

Some steps may cause mild discomfort, but most patients find it manageable. Medications and monitoring help reduce side effects.

Who benefits most from IVF?

Couples with blocked tubes, severe male infertility, unexplained infertility, or unsuccessful prior treatments often consider IVF.
