PGT-A Process

PGT-A is carried out as part of your IVF and ICSI cycle, and the process follows a clear sequence from consultation to embryo transfer. This guide outlines what you can expect at each step of your journey.

Step-by-Step PGT-A PROCESS

1 Consultation & Screening

During your initial consultation, your doctor will review your medical history and discuss whether PGT-A is appropriate for your individual circumstances.

You’ll also receive guidance on preparation, cycle planning, and what to expect throughout treatment.

Key points:

  • Medical review and fertility history
  • Discussion of whether PGT-A aligns with your goals
  • Personalized treatment planning
2IVF/ICSI Cycle

PGT-A can only be performed on embryos created through IVF or ICSI. Your cycle includes medication to stimulate the ovaries, monitoring appointments, and a scheduled egg retrieval.

Cycle components:

  • Ovarian stimulation
  • Monitoring scans and blood tests
  • Egg retrieval
  • Fertilization using ICSI
  • Embryo development to Day 5–6
3Embryo Biopsy

Once your embryos reach the blastocyst stage, a biopsy is scheduled. At this point, embryos are prepared for cell sampling and then frozen while analysis is completed.

What you can expect:

  • Clear communication on timing
  • Updates from the laboratory team
  • Freezing of embryos immediately after biopsy
4Genetic Testing

After the biopsy, the cell samples are sent to a genetics laboratory. Your care team will let you know when to expect the results and how they will be shared.

What happens during this stage from the patient perspective:

  • Laboratory receives the samples
  • Results are processed and returned to your doctor
  • You will be contacted once the report is available
5Results & Selection

Your doctor will review your results and suggest which embryos are best suited for transfer.

You will be instructed for the next steps, including the timing of your frozen embryo transfer.

What this includes:

  • Review of your embryo report
  • Recommendation of the most suitable embryo(s)
  • Treatment plan moving forward
6Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET)

Once the uterus is prepared, a single embryo is thawed and transferred. The pregnancy test typically takes place around 8–9 days after transfer.

Key steps:

  • Endometrial preparation
  • Transfer scheduling
  • Pregnancy test following the transfer window

FAQs About PGT-A

How long does the entire PGT-A process take?

Most patients can expect the full cycle, from consultation to embryo transfer, to span several weeks, depending on individual treatment plans and menstrual timing.

Will PGT-A extend my IVF/ICSI timeline?

PGT-A does not significantly extend the ovarian stimulation or egg retrieval process. The main difference is that embryo transfer is performed in a later cycle because embryos are frozen while results are prepared.

Do I need to stay in Bangkok for the entire process?

International patients often complete initial consultations and testing at home. Travel to Bangkok is typically required for monitoring, egg retrieval, and follow-up planning for the transfer.

How will I receive my PGT-A results?

Your Patient Navigator will contact you once the report is available and arrange a consultation to discuss which embryo(s) are recommended for transfer.
